The general goal to Year 2025, the Southern key economic region will become the modern industrial development region, the region's industrial development in association with science, technology, and quality industrial products, competitive ability and high added value industries. Vietnam has planned to develop industrial parks, econmic zones, etc. in this region to promote this goal.

In the 2026 - 2035 period, this region's industrial manufactured products will have prestigious brands and satisfy the standards of developed markets. Regarding specific objectives, Vietnamese government's plan defines: The growth rate of Vietnam industrial manufacturing value reaches 10.5-11.0%; a period of 2021-2025 reaches 12.5-13.0%; a period of 2026-2035 reaches 12.0-12.5%.

The industrial development orientation plan of the Southern key economic region to Year 2025 is to focus develop regional brands and specific products to participate in key export and value chains of the whole country. Moreover, the plan continue promoting the development of a number of key industries such as oil and gas exploitation, steel production, electricity production, fertilizers, and petroleum chemicals; production of construction materials and industries that attract a lot of labors, especially in provinces with low development levels: processing of agriculture - forestry - fisheries, food industry; production of consumer goods, textiles, footwear, plastics.

At the same time, provinces in region have to focus on faster development of a number of leading industries and industrial manufactured products such as software, industrial and civil electronics; precision engineering, manufacturing molds and medical tools; to encourage the development of supporting industries for mechanical engineering, automobile, motorcycle, and electronics industries; to create a satellite network to supply components and accessories for big companies; to develop high-tech industries and clean industries, electronics and information technology.

Vision to Year 2035: The Southern key economic region continues to be a dynamic region of economy development with high and sustainable growth quality; to be a high-tech industrial centre with high-level of specialization. Industrial zones should be friendly with the environment, focusing clean industries, high-technology products which are able to join global production chains.

Regarding distribution of industrial area, it is planned to develop industrial space to the location of the provinces of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Tien Giang and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
